The Gala Awards, with the sponsorship of the Biennial of Fine Art & Documentary Photography invites photographers worldwide to submit images to 12th Edition of The Pollux Award.

This Award is open to all photographers, professional and non professional worldwide, working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought. Traditional, contemporary, avant-garde, creative and experimental works that include old and new processes, mixed techniques, and challenging personal, emotional or political statements will be welcome.

(A professional photographers is defined as anyone who earns more than 50 percent of her annual income from photography.)


JURORPhilip Brookman

Philip Brookman is consulting curator in the department of photography at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, where he has organized Gordon Parks: The New Tide, Early Works 1940-1950 and other projects. Brookman was chief curator and head of research, senior curator of photography and media arts, and curator of photography and media arts at the Corcoran Gallery of Art between 1993 and 2014. He organized or co-organized many projects there and has also worked with Tate Modern, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Washington Project for the Arts, Centro Cultural de la Raza, San Diego, the University of California, Santa Cruz, and other institutions. Brookman is also a photographer, filmmaker, and writer, engaged with modern and contemporary art. In 2015, Brookman published a work of fiction with photographs, titled Redlands.

The Pollux Award is addressed to professional and non professional photographers worldwide, who will compete in this editions in two different sections (Pro and Non-Pro) in the following categories:

ENTRY FEES:

$60 for the first 3 images (the minimum of images to submit is 3);
$13 each additional image. 

Series:
$65 for 1 series of 3 to 6 images;
$18 each additional series. 

An image or series can be submitted to more than one category, counting as an additional image or series.

All submission can be only done online using the Registration Form embedded below.

SUBMISSION SPECIFICATIONS: 

Filename has to be the following format:  

For Single Images: Filename has to be: Your First Name_Your Last Name _ Image Title.jpg

For Series: Filename has to be: Your First Name_Your Last Name_Series Title_ Image Title_Sequence number.jpg, where sequence number indicates how do you want the order of the images to be seen by the jurors.

Please do not use characters and symbols such as ß, á, å, è, ö, ø, ž, ´, ©, &, ", etc.

File Type should be: profile sRGB or Adobe RGB, jpg, resolution = 72 dpi

The maximum largest dimension should be max 1800 pixels in the largest side (width or height) and no less than 1200 pixels

IMPORTANT: Before uploading your submission please check that both filename, file size, resolution and filetype complies with the specifications; otherwise your submission could be rejected.

AWARDS AND EXHIBITION SELECTION:

The Juror of the 12th Pollux Award will select one Winner in the Professional Section and One Winner in the Non-Professional Section. The Gala Awards will organize a solo exhibition for each Winner in the respective sections taking care of all exhibition expenses, including printing and framing of up to 20 photographs each. The exhibition will be held in adjunct spaces in Barcelona on Q1 or Q2 2019. A curator designed by The Gala Award will assist the Winners in the selection of the work to be exhibited and will take care of the exhibition setup.

The Winners of the categories Segregation & Human Rights in Pro and non Pro sections will have a special award of $500 each.

The Jurors will also select, in both Pro and Non-Pro Sections, runner ups and honorable mentions, as well as a short list of finalists. All these photographers will be invited to exhibit in a collective exhibition in a space contiguous of those of the Winners. The exhibition organization and venue costs, will be borne by The Gala Awards, and the exhibitors will be charged for printing and framing, and setup costs (hanging, labeling, and insurance).

Images of all awardees (Winners, Runner Ups, Honorable Mentions, and Finalists) will be exhibited online in The Gala Awards' website during a minimum of two years. 


COPYRIGHT:
All submitters warrant that they own the work submitted and that they have the exclusive copyright. The Gala Awards recognizes that the author retain full ownership of the image copyright.

USAGE:
Submitters warrant that their photographs may be reproduced for the purpose of marketing and promoting The Gala Awards’ competitions and Awards, as well as in catalogues, posters, postcards, publications, and on the Internet. Such use is granted for no more than two years after the announcement of the works selected in this competition. Such use is granted without any payment to the photographer or featured models. Photographers will receive credit with each use, and allow The Gala Awards to sublicense their photographs to the press for reproduction in connection with The Gala Awards’ competitions and awards.

The Gala Awards has the right to reject and remove any entry that contains defamatory, racist, obscene or pornographic content, or that may be considered a criminal offence or violate any law.
